Women's history - Belva Lockwood

From NWHM

BELVA LOCKWOOD Belva Ann Bennett McNall Lockwood, lawyer, pacifist, and feminist, made history as the woman who won the right for women lawyers to practice before the Supreme Court. She herself became the first woman lawyer to practice before the Supreme Court, founded the national Equal Rights Party and was its candidate for president in 1884 and 1888, and won a precedent-setting legal case for the Cherokee Indian tribe based on their treaty rights with the United States government (1906).
